Project Description
Stage 1 of a 3 stage project has been completed at the Dunnes Stores in Jetland, Limerick, where renovations and repairs are being completed on the carpark area.
Work Included
Works included the removal of existing surfaces from podium deck car park and the installation of waterproofing membrane carried out by specialist contractor and reinstatement of surface finishes. Works were carried out in 3 phases to allow the shopping centre to continue operations with minimal disturbances.

First step was the removal of existing tarmac and paving and disconnection and removal of light standards for later reinstallation. A road planer was used, and concrete grinding carried out where necessary to achieve a smooth finish for waterproofing. The existing waterproof membrane required removal which was very labour intensive. There was significant detailing required around wall junctions, ramps, kerbs etc. Bases were cast for lighting columns and street furniture. The waterproofing materials could only be used in suitable weather which proved challenging in scheduling works.
All surfaces required a coat of primer and then the eliminator system was applied. Tarmac areas required an additional bond coat. Expansion joints were cut out after the tarmac was installed. Paving works were carried out behind the waterproofing contractor following testing of the system. Following installation of bond coat tarmac was installed in two layers and area was line marked for car park spaces.
